Dikembe Mutombo is to receive special recognition from the NBA this summer. The NBA along with Turner Sports will give Mutombo this Year's Sager Strong Award named for Turner Sports reporter Craig Sager who died after fighting a heroic battle with cancer. Each year, the recognition showcases an individual's creativity and "stick-to-itiveness" to bring about positive change. In yesterday's announcement, the NBA and Turner said the Hall of Famer has done much to improve quality of life for people in his native Democratic Republic of Congo. The NBA Defensive Player of the Year battled on the court from the early 90's beginning with the Nuggets until he left the NBA in 2009 because of a leg injury, finishing out his career with the Rockets. The awards event is scheduled for June 25th in Santa Monica, California.
