Drunk Florida Man Shoots Seven-Year-Old Who Was Playing With Nerf Gun

A Florida man is under arrest after he allegedly shot a seven-year-old child in the leg while he was blackout drunk. Police said that the boy was playing with Nerf guns with a group of his friends in the living room of a Sanford home when Anthony Knuth, 30, told them he had a real gun and was going to put real bullets in it.

Knuth's sister, Heidi Netty, told police that she had left the room for about ten minutes when she heard a loud pop. She ran back into the room and saw her son was bleeding from below his left kneecap. Netty believed he was shot with a BB gun and took him to the hospital in a cab.

When doctors examined the boy's knee, they realized he had been shot with a real gun, likely a .22-caliber. They said that he would need surgery to remove the bullet fragments from his leg.

Knuth told police that he had a few shots of Southern Comfort and went to bed. He claimed to have no recollection of the incident and said that if he did shoot the boy, it was accidental. His sister says that he has an alcohol problem and gets blackout drunk often.

"It's not an excuse, and I won't make excuses, but there comes a time when justice is served, and he needs rehab and mental help," Netty said. "It's not what it looks like on paper, so we're going to try to get him help."

Knuth was charged with neglect of a child with great bodily harm and using a firearm under the influence of alcohol. He was held on a $15,000 bond.
