Baker Mayfield Has Gone From Rookie Sensation to Irrelevant Disaster

Colin Cowherd: “I’ve counted seven straight weeks that there has been a mini-controversy or distraction with the Browns… The NFL changes REALLY fast. Ten games ago 'Baker Mania' hit the NFL because of a series of two games against awful Cincinnati where Mayfield had 7 touchdowns and no picks. I kept saying he’s short and not getting taller, he’s not athletically dynamic, and he’s cocky. I told you to SLOW DOWN and that he’d face much better teams and coaches the next year. Ten games later his accuracy has eroded, he will be on his fourth head coach in two years when Freddie Kitchens is fired, and is now he’s JUST A GUY. He’s 32nd in passer rating, 30th in completion percentage, and 2nd in the most interceptions with an elite running back and elite receiver corps. He’s not even the most interesting quarterback in the AFC with a mustache… That’s Gardner Minshew. The Browns are now closer to the Dolphins than they are to the Steelers WITHOUT Big Ben. This is why you don’t do 15 commercials, why you come in humble and hungry, and why you don’t make bold predictions. The interest in Baker is simply the DISASTER known as Baker.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why it only took only ten games for Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield to go from record-breaking rookie sensation to irrelevant dumpster fire, as the severely underachieving Browns have been the NFL’s biggest eyesore.

A year after breaking Peyton Manning’s rookie record for touchdown passes, Mayfield leads the AFC in interceptions and has the second worst passer rating in the NFL, only ahead of Jets quarterback Sam Darnold.

Mayfield has become the league’s most identifiable player with his massive wave of commercials and constant flock of controversial soundbites and media appearances, but his persona has essentially become a punchline as the second-year player has made a strong case for NFL’s worst starting quarterback.

Check out the video above as Colin details how Baker is simply ‘JUST A GUY’ now, and a player who could quickly be washed away with highly touted rookies Tua Tagovailoa, Joe Burrow, and Trevor Lawrence set to hit the league in the coming years.
