No Draymond Green, LeBron James Isn't the 'Smartest Basketball Player Ever'

Draymond Green after being asked if the mental challenge of facing the Celtics compares to facing LeBron James in the NBA Finals: “It doesn’t compare. He is arguably the smartest guy to set foot on a basketball court. To say that it compares to that, it’s disrespectful to LeBron and it’s a lie to you.”

Chris Broussard: “He did say ‘arguably’ twice so I’ll give him that because I don’t think LeBron is the smartest player to ever play the game. I think he’s ‘one’ of them but I don’t think he’s ‘THE' smartest. He’s obviously a very intelligent guy on and off the court, and he does have a photographic memory that has been well-documented, but I can’t give him the title of the ‘smartest’ because I don’t think dominating the ball is the smartest way of playing basketball. I think the smartest way to play basketball is when you get all five guys involved. Basically, all five players on the court with you are close to maximizing their ability. The ‘Showtime’ Lakers were so great because Kareem could be at the highest level Kareem could play at, Magic could play at the highest level he could play at, and James Worthy could be at the highest level they could play at. In Miami LeBron played at the highest level he could play at but Dwyane Wade had to step back and be about 80% of the player he could be. Chris Bosh became a role player, and it was the same thing in Cleveland with Kevin Love. He’s obviously a ‘smart’ player but I could not say the ‘smartest player that we’ve ever seen. One of the way his intelligence is manifested is in his marketing and his ability to make it seem like everything he's doing is the first time or the 'greatest' time. He's got a school in Akron...he wasn't the first to do that and certainly not the only one. Jalen Rose has a school, David Robinson had a school in San Antoinio long before Lebron was in the league. He's got a machine behind him, they got the broadcasters there, but it comes off as if it's the 'first' time."
Rob Parker: “If he’s so smart then how come he’s lost so many times in the Finals?? Just saying…  I get it, Draymond is friends with LeBron and he admires him but it’s always over the top. It always seems to be over the top when it comes to LeBron as if he doesn’t do anything wrong and he’s won everything...like I don’t think he has had that career. He’s had a great career but he hasn’t done everything right and everything hasn’t worked out. Draymond has an affinity for LeBron and no matter what he says whenever LeBron comes up it’s the greatest compliment you could ever give somebody... Even with the 'player mobility', it happened way before LeBron with Grant Hill, Tracy McGrady, and Tim Duncan when they almost went to Orlando together.” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Chris Broussard and Rob Parker discuss Draymond Green’s recent remarks that proclaimed LeBron James as ‘arguably the smartest guy to set foot on a basketball court’, as both Rob and Chris share the same sentiment that they disagree with that compliment being considered accurate.
