Supermodel Gisele Bündchen and jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente reportedly split after added scrutiny of their relationship brought on by the Netflix roast of her ex-husband, seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, last month.
An insider with knowledge of the situation told InTouch Weekly Thursday (June 13) that the "spotlight was too much" for Valente, who had trained Bündchen prior to public reports of their romantic relationship in 2023.
“Joaquim’s a regular guy,” the source said. “He’s not used to all the attention he was getting.”
Brady's divorce from Bündchen and her relationship Valente was referenced numerous times throughout the May 5th The Greatest Roast Of All-Time Netflix live stream, which included host Kevin Hart, among others, implying that the supermodel cheated on the seven-time Super Bowl champion. A source with knowledge of the situation told PEOPLE.com that Bündchen, who shares two children with Brady, was "deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family on Sunday evening's roast show" days later.
"As always, [Bündchen's] priority is to support her children who were affected by the irresponsible content that was broadcasted," the source added.
Page Six, which cited a source that claimed Bündchen believed Brady "once again put football before his family" during the Netflix special, acknowledged that Brady went along with several jokes about his marriage and his ex-wife's relationship with Valente, but warned comedian Jeff Ross "don't say that s**t again" after he told a joke about New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft's 2019 arrest for soliciting prostitution in a Florida massage parlor, which resulted in charges against him being dropped. In March, Bündchen initially broke her silence after rumors of having cheated on Brady were "amplified."
“That is a lie,” Bündchen said while addressing the speculation in an interview with the New York Times published on March 23.
Bündchen's comments came weeks after reports that Brady had reportedly "accepted" that her relationship with her Valente began "years ago," a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to the Daily Mail.
“This is something that happens to a lot of women who get blamed when they have the courage to leave an unhealthy relationship and are labeled as being unfaithful,” Bündchen told the New York Times. “They have to deal with their communities. They have to deal with their family. Of course, for me, it just happens to be a little bit amplified.”
In February, Page Six reported that representatives for Brady and Bündchen were disputing in the press over her reported new relationship with Valente, who she was reported to be "deeply in love" with.
“They have been dating since June. They’re taking it slow. They started out as great friends first. She’s very private about this and wanted to keep it quiet while they got to know each other,” the sources claimed.
Sources linked to Brady then claimed that the relationship started much earlier, telling TMZ, "They should add '2021' after June. Then the headline would be accurate."
Brady and Bündchen filed for divorce in October 2022 and were reported to have separated in June 2021. Valente and his brother, also a trainer, had been spotted with Bündchen on several trips to Costa Rica and her native Brazil since November 2022, though the supermodel previously claimed that things were platonic, calling him a "true friend."
A source claimed that Bündchen and Valente were reported to have "had a conversation and became a couple" in July 2023, Page Six reported last week after another source said they saw the two kissing on Valentine's Day in Miami.
Brady and Bündchen share two children together and the retired quarterback has another son from his prior relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan, which was also referenced multiple times during the roast. The 3-hour long roast covered several other controversial topics including Brady's $30 million losses in Crypto.com, the Patriots' alleged involvement in the Spygate and Deflategate controversies, and the retired quarterback's relationship with longtime head coach Bill Belichick, who also participated in the event.
