Michigan Wolverines head football coach Sherrone Moore is reportedly expected to be suspended for two games during the 2025 season as part of self-imposed punishment by the athletic program in relation to the Connor Stalions advanced scouting scandal, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Dan Wetzel and Pete Thamel on Monday (May 5).

Moore had previously served as an interim head coach when his predecessor, now-Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, was suspended for the first three games of the eventual 2023 national championship season for past recruiting violations, as well as the final three regular season games for the scandal centered around Stalions, a former defensive analyst accused of stealing opponents signs prior to his resignation in 2023.

"Michigan is expected to suspend coach Sherrone Moore two games during the 2025 season as a self-imposed punishment in the advanced scouting case, industry sources tell me and @PeteThamel," Wetzel wrote on his X account.

"As noted in story, Moore will not be able to coach practice in the game weeks of the CMU and NEB games. In 2023, Jim Harbaugh was allowed to coach in practice when he was suspended by NCAA. The rule changed in January of 2024. Was proposed a year earlier," Thamel added.

Moore's suspensions will take place during Weeks 3 and 4, when the Wolverines will face Central Michigan and Nebraska, respectively, according to ESPN. Moore will also reportedly be barred from any team-related duties during the game weeks of his suspensions and receive additional recruiting-related penalties.

The NCAA will reportedly still be able to hand down its own punishment to Moore and the Michigan football program despite the self-imposed penalties. A final resolution is expected to be made publicly prior to the 2025 college football season.

Moore went 8-5 (5-4 Big Ten) during his first season as Michigan's full-time head coach, which included an upset of arch rival and eventual national champion Ohio State, as well as a 19-13 win against Alabama in the 2024 ReliaQuest Bowl.
