'Dogs start weekend with win over Lopes

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State women's tennis team starts the weekend with a win over Grand Canyon on Saturday afternoon at Spalding G. Wathem, 4-3.

How It Happened

Fresno State fought hard to secure the doubles point. GCU took the first doubles match on court one as Klara Vukicevic and Andjela Lopicic fell six games to one against Arangio/Hofbauer. Eliza Dunbar and Charlotte Gisclon responded for Fresno State by defeating Crossman/Mihajlovic, 6-4 on court 3 to tie up the doubles match. Yinglak Jittakoat and Paulina Montiel earned a hard fought victory on court 2, defeating Deaifi/Del Marco 6-4 and securing the doubles point for Fresno State.

Fresno State saw themselves holding a 3-0 lead early thanks to wins on court 1 and court 2 by Yinglak Jittakoat and Sophia Pizzoni. Jittakoat finished first, defeating Hofbauer in two sets (6-3, 6-0). Pizzoni's victory over Arangio on court 2 came in similar fashion as Pizzoni took both sets by the identical score (6-3, 6-0). GCU claimed their first point on court 3 where Dania Deaifi bested Charlotte Gisclon in back-to-back sets (6-4, 6-2).

On court 6, Paulina Montiel was looking to clinch the win for the Bulldogs. After winning the first set (6-2), Montiel finished off Duckett in the second set (6-4) to secure the win for Fresno State. Andjela Lopicic dropped her match against Crossman after forcing a third set on court 4 (2-6 ,6-4, 1-6), and Eliza Dunbar fell to Mihajlovic after three sets (3-6, 7-6, 11-9) on court 5.

Up next: Bulldogs continue their weekend traveling to Moraga to visit Saint Mary's College, first serve is set for 2 p.m. PT.
