Bulldogs return to Big 12 Championship

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State equestrian team enters the 2025 Big 12 Championship as the No. 4 seed. The championship event is hosted by TCU this weekend at Bear Creek Farms in Burleson, Texas.

The Bulldogs will face No. 1 seed and host school TCU in the first round of competition on Friday. New in 2025, the Big 12 eliminated the consolation bracket. If the Bulldogs lose to No. 1 TCU on Friday, they will not compete on Saturday. The championship meet will be on Saturday between the winners of each semifinal from Friday.

The teams in the national rankings

All four Big 12 equestrian programs were ranked in the final national dual discipline team rankings. TCU led the way at No. 3 followed by Oklahoma State at No. 5, Fresno State at No. 8 and Baylor at No. 9.

Championship Flashback

Fresno State is set to compete at its fifth Big 12 Championship this weekend. The Bulldogs joined the conference in the 2019-20 season, but the 2020 edition of the championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bulldogs look for their first win at the Big 12 Championship as the team has finished in fourth place in its last four championships.

Fresno State's last conference title was in 2015 when it was named the United Equestrian Conference champion. That is the Bulldogs' only conference title in program history.

Bulldog Bones

Fresno State is 7-6 this season, more than doubling its win total from the last two seasons.

Fresno State earned two conference wins this season, against Oklahoma State and Baylor. Both conference wins were earned at home.

Fresno State has not defeated TCU since Oct. 2, 2021, and have not defeated TCU on the road since Feb. 21, 2020.

Fresno State had a streak of four-straight victories this season, the second longest winning streak in program history.

The Bulldogs defeated three ranked opponents this season.

Fresno State ranked as high as No. 6 in the national polls this year.

The Bulldogs enter the conference championship weekend ranked No. 8. The top eight teams qualify to advance to the national championship. The official team announcements and bracket will be announced after the conference championship weekend.

Western 'Dogs

Fresno State is 64-57-8 in the western events this season.

The Bulldogs are evenly matched in the western events with 32 reining wins and 32 horsemanship wins this season.

The Bulldogs have a total of 14 western MOP honors this season, including eight in horsemanship and six in reining.

In the horsemanship, senior Kendra Lee leads the way with a 8-4-1 record with four MOPs.

A trio of Bulldogs - Alana Becker, Alison Heupel and Brogan Hill - lead the team with seven wins apiece.

Becker, Hill and Adrianna Runzo each have two reining MOPs.

Heupel saw her five-meet winning streak snapped with a narrow loss to Oklahoma State in the regular season finale.

Hill also saw her four-meet winning streak snapped last time out.

Jumping Seat 'Dogs

Fresno State is 64-59-3 in the jumping seat events.

The Bulldogs have 33 fences wins and 31 flat wins.

Fresno State has 12 jumping seat MOPs this season with seven in the fences and five in the flat.

Freshman Paris Mahoney has dominated both events for the Bulldogs, leading the way in each event with eight fences wins and nine flat wins.

Mahoney has three fences MOPs and two flat MOPs.

Fellow classmate Paloma Primavera has had a successful freshman campaign with a 7-5-1 record in the fences, with two MOPs.
